Dear friends,
In the noble verse “And We have certainly honored the children of Adam” (Quran, Al-Isra 17:70), Almighty God emphasizes that He has bestowed dignity upon all of Adam’s descendants. The important point here is the universality of this dignity; God did not say “to the believers” or “to the Muslims,” but rather granted this dignity to “all children of Adam.” 🕊
This fundamental principle – the inherent dignity of every human being – regardless of religion, race, gender, or background, is an undeniable right for everyone. From this inherent dignity arise rights such as:
✔️ **The right to life:** Clearly stated in the verse “Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had killed all mankind” (Quran, Al-Ma’idah 5:32), equating the killing of one person with the killing of all humanity.
✔️ **Freedom of belief:** With the Quranic affirmation “There is no compulsion in religion” (Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:256), meaning no one is forced to accept a faith.
✔️ **The right to dignified treatment:** Even in times of war, torture and mutilation of human beings are prohibited.
✔️ **The principle of equality:** As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “No Arab is superior to a non-Arab, and no non-Arab is superior to an Arab; no white person is superior to a black person, and no black person is superior to a white person – except through piety.”
Now, if we compare these principles with some historical events, the depth of this message becomes clearer:
* Apartheid and racism, which we witnessed in parts of the world until recent decades.
* The massacre of indigenous peoples in the Americas.
* The Holocaust and the use of weapons of mass destruction.
These comparisons show how lofty human concepts have sometimes been neglected throughout history and in other societies. Therefore, those who present Islam as being opposed to human rights may need to take a deeper look at the authentic Islamic texts, especially the Holy Quran. 📖
